Draftfcb joined Operation Deploy: Madison Avenue, a veterans career fair hosted by Advertising Week and the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Iraq and Afghanistan veterans from their deployments through their transition home and beyond. IAVA’s Employment Support Programs specifically leads the way in connecting veterans with the resources and assistance they need as they segue from the military and into civilian work force. According to IAVA, in August 2012, the average unemployment rate for the generation of post-9/11 veterans was 10.9%. Among IAVA members, the overall average unemployment rate was 17% in 2011.
About 50 to 75 veterans attended the event, held at the B.B. King Blues Club in Times Square. With veterans accustomed to high-impact environments, crisis situations, problem solving, leading and working in teams, they make ideal candidates for the fast-paced, deadline-driven advertising industry. Veterans with degrees in marketing and office management work are currently being considered for entry-level accounts and media planning roles and administrative assistant spots here at Draftfcb.
